Frequently Asked Questions

How often are the Oil Price Watch portals updated?
The Consumer Council monitors auto-fuel prices and discount promotions provided by oil companies daily, and updates the portal accordingly. However, the information displayed on this portal is not updated in real time. The latest auto-fuel prices and discount promotions as provided by the respective oil companies shall prevail. (except statutory holidays)

What is pump price?
Pump price refers to the auto-fuel price sold to consumers without taking into account duty and walk-in discount. Oil companies generally display such information on prominent price information boards at auto-fuel stations and on their websites.

What is walk-in discount?
Walk-in discount refers to (i) instant discounts available to consumers upon purchase; or (ii) discounts available to consumers prepared to complete a membership / loyalty card form at no charge.

What is free upgrade promotion? How is it reflected on the Oil Price Watch portals?
Free upgrade promotion refers to a common type of discount provided by oil companies from which consumers can enjoy premium petrol at the price of standard petrol.

Depending on the oil company’s practice, the discount is offered by reducing the pump price of premium petrol to that of standard petrol or increasing premium petrol’s walk-in discount such that the net prices after walk-in discount of both standard petrol and premium petrol are at the same level.

Such promotion is reflected on the portals in accordance with the oil company’s practice. If you wish to know whether there is free upgrade promotion today or in the next few days, information can be found in the “Discount & Promotion” module on the Oil Price Watch Website and the Oil Price Watch App.
